HOOM Inc. ("HOOM," "we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your information when you use the HOOM mobile application, website, and related services (the "Service").
HOOM now includes social features: a profile with a username and photo, connections with other members, sending short voice recordings ("hums") to other people, live sessions with your connections (HOOM Together), and a daily worldwide session (Daily Global HOOM). These features involve sharing some of your information with other people. This policy explains what is shared, with whom, and how you control it.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide
Account and profile information:
- Name and email address
- Login credentials, or a sign-in token if you use Sign in with Apple or another third-party sign-in
- Username
- Profile photo, if you choose to add one
- Hum avatar: a short recording of your own voice that you can add to your profile
- Preferences such as your chosen companion voice and reminder time
- Responses to optional reflections or prompts
Content you create and send:
- Hums: short voice recordings you send to a specific person or share by link
- Connection requests, and the list of members you are connected with
- Reports you submit about other members or content
Communications with us, such as support requests.
Information collected automatically
- Device type, operating system and version, app version, language, and time zone
- IP address
- Approximate location (city and country level), derived from your IP address or device settings. HOOM does not collect precise GPS location.
- Session activity: which sessions you start and complete, session duration, streaks, and app interactions
- Push notification token, if you enable notifications
- Advertising and attribution identifiers, subject to your device permissions
- Crash and performance data
Participation data
During live sessions (HOOM Together and Daily Global HOOM) we collect start and end times, whether you completed the session, and participant counts.
Audio
Solo HOOM Now sessions and Moments are not recorded. The microphone is used only when you choose to record a hum or join a live session with other people.
A hum you send is a recording of your voice. We store it so the recipient can play it and, if they choose, hum along to it as a companion voice. Sent hums are deleted 24 hours after they are sent.
A hum avatar on your profile is stored for as long as you keep it on your profile. You can remove or replace it at any time.
HOOM Together sessions transmit your voice in real time to the other participants. We do not record or store audio from these sessions.
The Daily Global HOOM does not transmit or record audio.
Information from other people
If someone sends you a hum or connection request, we receive that content and the sender's account information in order to deliver it. If you join HOOM through someone's share link, we record which member's link you used (see Section 4).
Contacts
HOOM does not access or upload your device address book. You find other members by searching for their username. Invitations and shared hums sent to people outside HOOM go through your device's standard share sheet, and HOOM does not see who you choose to send them to.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate, maintain, and secure the Service
- Create and display your profile, and deliver hums, connection requests, and session invitations
- Run live and synchronized sessions
- Show session results, such as participant counts and the cities and countries represented
- Track streaks, lights, milestones, and completed sessions
- Send reminders and notifications you have enabled, and product updates or announcements by email
- Measure and improve the Service, including studying how features are used
- Measure the performance of our marketing and understand how people find HOOM
- Detect, investigate, and prevent abuse, and enforce our Terms of Service
- Comply with legal obligations
3. What Other Members Can See
Some of your information is visible to other people as part of the Service:
- Your username is searchable by any member.
- Your profile photo, first name, and hum avatar are visible to members you are connected with, and to other participants in sessions you join together.
- In the Daily Global HOOM, your profile photo may be displayed to other participants during and after the session. Your approximate location contributes to the session map at the city and country level and is not tied to your name.
- When you send a hum, the recipient sees your name and can play your voice. Hums shared by link can be opened by anyone with the link.
- Connections can see when you are in a session with them.
- If someone joined HOOM through your share link, you may see counts of people who joined through you and through them, and the cities they are in. They are not shown your identity beyond the invitation itself, and you are not shown their names unless you are connected.
If you use a feature that matches you with members you are not connected with, those members may see your first name, city, local time, and hum avatar.
You can control this by choosing not to add a profile photo or hum avatar, declining connection requests, and using the mute, block, and report tools available on any member.
4. Share Links and Referrals
When you share HOOM or send a hum by link, the link contains an identifier for your account. If the recipient installs HOOM and completes their first session, we associate their account with yours so that we can show you the impact of your invitation and show new members who invited them. This information is used only within the Service and is not sold.
5. How We Share Information
We do not sell personal information.
We share information with:
- Other members, as described in Section 3
- Service providers who help us operate the Service, such as cloud hosting, audio storage and delivery, analytics, crash reporting, email and push notification delivery, and customer support. They may use your information only to provide services to us.
- Advertising and attribution partners, to measure whether our advertising works and to reach people who are likely to be interested in HOOM. This may include sharing device identifiers or hashed email addresses with advertising platforms. Depending on where you live, this may be considered "sharing" for targeted advertising, and you can opt out as described in Section 8.
- Legal authorities, if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of HOOM, our members, or others
- A successor, in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this policy
We may share aggregated or de-identified information, such as the number of people who joined a Daily Global HOOM, that cannot reasonably be used to identify you.
6. Data Retention
- Sent hums are deleted 24 hours after sending.
- Your hum avatar is kept until you remove it or delete your account.
- Profile information, connections, and session history are kept for as long as your account is active.
- When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. Copies may persist in backups for a limited time.
- Aggregated session and participation data that no longer identifies you may be retained.
7. Data Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit. No system can guarantee absolute security. Keep your login credentials secure and tell us at support@hoominc.com if you believe your account has been compromised.
8. Your Choices and Rights
You can:
- Edit your profile, photo, and hum avatar in the app
- Delete your account from within the app, or by emailing support@hoominc.com
- Mute, block, or report any member
- Turn notifications off in your device settings
- Limit ad tracking and reset your advertising identifier in your device settings
- Unsubscribe from marketing email using the link in any message
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, to receive a copy of it, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent, and to opt out of the sharing of your information for targeted advertising. To exercise these rights, or to opt out of advertising sharing, email support@hoominc.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising them. If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, you may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
9. Children's Privacy
HOOM is not intended for children under 13, and you must be at least 18 to create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have, we will delete it. Contact support@hoominc.com if you believe a child has provided us information.
10. International Users
HOOM is operated in the United States. If you use the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.
11. Cookies and Analytics
Our website and app may use cookies and similar technologies to understand usage patterns, improve the Service, and measure engagement and marketing. You can manage cookies through your browser settings.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. If changes are significant, we will notify you within the Service or by email before they take effect. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
